Bird Habitat and Baby Bird Monitoring with AOA
Jun 14, 2015
Join AOA and representatives of the Columbus Audubon Society for a workshop on cavity-nesting birds. Look inside active nesting boxes and learn about bird boxes, bird banding and wild bird habitat for the species in our area.
Cavity-nesting bird expert Darlene Sillick will help answer your birding and nesting questions.
This unique event will provide an opportunity to see inside active nest boxes and view young birds up close. We will learn to tell how old a nestling is, how to band birds, and why scientists use leg bands to study bird populations.
We will discuss the species of native birds that may readily use nest boxes on your property and share information on good box design features, box placement, installation tips and basic monitoring recommendations. We will also explore the conservation Demonstration Site area to learn about the type of habitat that will attract various nesting species.
This is a family-friendly event. Please dress appropriately for the summer weather and walking on mown prairie grasses.
